Out Of Hours

GP and nurse appointments are now available in your area at evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

When We Are Closed

The provision of GP Out of Hours cover is undertaken by Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC).

To contact a doctor when the surgery is closed if you live in south Cumbria (covering the Westmorland, South Lakes and Barrow-in-Furness areas) you should telephone NHS 111 by dialling 111

(Hearing impaired users who need to contact CHoC please call (Typetalk) 18001 03000 247 247)

Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) operates when GP practices are closed and normally this is from 18:30 - 08:00 Monday – Friday, and 24 hours throughout the weekend and on Bank Holidays. CHoC also covers afternoons when GP practices are closed for staff training.

The main CH treatment centres are located in:

  • Kendal – Westmorland General Hospital
  • Barrow – Furness General Hospital
  • Morecambe – Queen Victoria Centre
  • Lancaster – Royal Lancaster Infirmary

Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
