Nurse Clinics

nurse_senior_bpOur practice nurse gives advice on long term conditions such as asthma, diabetes, blood pressure & heart conditions, travel health, immunisations, diet, cholesterol and Health Promotion helping with weight loss or stopping smoking.

She also attends to minor injuries,cervical smears,ear syringing and dressings.

She holds a baby and child immunisation clinic every Friday 15:30 -16:00

Child Health

A baby clinic is held at the surgery on the second Wednesday of the month (term time only) at 14:00 - 15:30 (no appointment necessary) and the Health Visitor will be available for support and advice and will arrange hearing and development checks for your child.

Immunisations are important to ensure your child's health. An immunisation clinic is held every Friday from 15:30 - 16:00 (appointments will be issued).

Chronic Diseases

If you have certain conditions such as diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, thyroid, ischaemic heart disease or are taking certain medications, you will be requested to make regular appointments to see the Nurse and/or Doctor to monitor your treatment.

Family Planning

Cartmel Surgery provides a full range of services including cap fittings, coil insertions, and contraceptive implants.

Flu vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are available from October. These are given each year and are recommended for everyone over 65 years and anyone with a chronic disease, such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease of any age. You may also be offered a one-off pneumococcal vaccine.

Maternity

Both Doctors provide full maternity services and liaise with the Community Midwives and Obstetricians from Kendal and Barrow. If you are planning a pregnancy you are advised to get as fit as possible, stop smoking and start taking folic acid tablets (available from chemists and some supermarkets). Please let the Doctor know if you discover you are pregnant.

Minor Surgery

A wide range of procedures are performed at the Surgery under local anaesthetic. Please discuss with the Doctors.

Routine Immunisations

Tetanus is a life threatening disease. A simple course of injections can prevent this.
